hpboid.exe

hpboid.exe is meant to be Hewlett Packard’s Status Server application. This file is installed by the drivers of some HP business laser printers; these printers are part of the Enterprise Configuration Agent (EAC) technology developed by HP. This technology enables the drivers to send automated queries to the printer, irrespective of it being a local resource or part of a network, and based on the output for the query, the printer’s physical configuration is automatically updated in the Windows printer configuration screen. Any new attachment that you connect to a printer is automatically queried for by this service and updated in the printer drivers.
The hpboid.exe file can be found in the folder C:WindowsSystem32 or a subfolder, and sometimes malware programs like viruses or spyware may run in the background masquerading as this program. The size of the file for the legitimate program hpboid.exe should be either 61440 bytes or 73728 bytes on a PC running Windows XP or Vista. This file is not a Windows System file, but it is deemed trustworthy by Microsoft.
The early versions of hpboid.exe and its sister task HPBPRO caused various malfunctions. There were many cases where hpboid.exe caused many unnecessary tasks to run, resulting in them eating up the resources of the PC, sometimes using as much as eighty to one hundred percent of the CPU usage, leaving no resources to be utilized by other programs. This led to computer slowdown and poor speed and performance. Hewlett Packard released driver updates to resolve these issues, and this did fix many of the issues. However, there are still some PCs that may have a a taxing time using this program due to unnecessary resource usage.
Hpboid.exe not being a Windows OS file, the computer will function perfectly fine without it. If problems are experienced with this program, simply remove it by uninstalling it, and there should be no further problems. This may make it impossible to use the printer though, so the first step to resolving any issue with the file hpboid.exe is to make sure that all driver updates are installed and the printer drivers are completely current and updated.
